What is SEG Fabric?

SEG stands for Silicone Edge Graphics, a popular type of fabric print where a thin silicone bead is sewn around the edges of the print. Lintel offers two types of light boxes used to display backlit graphic films: direct backlit light boxes and edge-lit light boxes.

Direct-backlit light boxes are designed to match what most people expect from a light box. The lights are located behind the viewing surface, so the light shines directly forward through the backlit graphic film.

Edge-lit light boxes feature LED lights built directly into the frame of the light box. The lights are illuminated by light strips on the left, right, or top and bottom of the frame, indirectly illuminating the graphic information.

Brightness: Direct-backlit light boxes are generally brighter because the light is transmitted directly from the lamp to the graphic surface, as opposed to being transmitted from the side. Uniformity of Diffusion: Direct-backlit light boxes have the potential for better uniformity of diffusion, meaning the brightness across the graphic will be more even from one corner to another. This is harder to achieve with edge-lit light boxes.

Investment: Direct-backlit light boxes require more lamps to illuminate the display surface than edge-lit light boxes. For example, a direct-backlit light box may use twice as many light strips as a similar edge-lit model, meaning it can be more expensive.
